Barry Macey

Leaving High Wycombe College of Technology and Art I stepped into the world of TV Series Animation, working on an American production in London, The Jackson 5, a young Michael Jackson and all that! Then as a freelance Art Director, Storyboard Artist, Set Designer and Character Designer, I worked with many major animated characters, e.g. The Wombles, Paddington Bear, Roland Rat and Horrid Henry.

For seven years I worked on the visuals and associated merchandise that kept the famous Paddington Bear in the public eye. During this time I drew the best selling fine-art prints and illustrated a book of BBC Blue Peter stories ‘Paddington on Screen’ – tales of Paddington’s mayhem around the BBC TV Centre.

A quote from the fine art publisher, Felix Rosenstiel’s Widow: “Barry Macey was the in-house artist with Paddington & Company in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Barry Macey’s artwork thus represents the essence of Paddington Bear to many generations of children around the world.”

An owner donated my fine-art print ‘Paddington at the Station to the Newton Free library prints collection in Massachusetts USA.

A life-long painter, in 2014 I was pleased my abstract triptych ‘Chiltern Hills’ was shortlisted for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.

I also write and perform my own songs theatrically. My work garners considerable interest on various social media platforms.”
