Gabriel Mansfield
Gabriel Mansfield (b.1992) is currently an instructor at the Royal College of Art. Mansfield graduated from the Royal College of Art’s MA programme after completing his BA in Fine Art at Goldsmiths. He later held the position of lecturer in fine art at The University for the Creative Arts in Canterbury.
These original paintings are from a series the artist completed during a year-long residency at the Kingswood School in Bath. The series hoped to encourage playful, creative thinking and free interpretation in a curriculum that lacked self-expression. Inspired by misinterpreting a parrot in Kandinsky’s ‘Landscape with Red Spot No.2’ as a child, Mansfield’s paintings sit on the threshold between illustration and abstraction, where subtle narratives emerge over time.
The artist reproduced the 52 paintings in the form of a limited-edition deck of cards that can be used as a device for imaginative storytelling. The sale of each painting will be accompanied by a complete signed and numbered deck.
